A Kimilili court has postponed the hearing of internally displaced people case up to 6th April 2020 regarding an application by one of the respondents in the case to seek more time. Kimilili resident Magistrate Israel Ruhu granted the request saying it was their right to seek more time for the case saying it is provided for in the law of the country.
However the IDPs expressed their anger regarding the whole issue saying they have been seeking justice for a long period of time ever since the process of compensation was launched by the government saying they are still seeking justice. Led by the Bungoma County IDPs vice chairman Fred Kituyi, the more than five hundred IDPs said it is unfortunate that their lives have never been the same again ever since they were displaced and have not had an opportunity to raise their families well again.
He said they are seeking to be given Kshs 410,000 each as passed by the government saying they are living in deplorable conditions and cannot afford to take their children to school. One of the applicants in the case Richard Masinde said the IDPs deserve justice and have been patient for a long period of time. He noted that there are fake IDPs who may have benefited on their behalf.
