A sombre mood has engulfed Mapera village, Kiminini Sub County in Trans Nzoia after a woman aged 59 years was murdered. According to the area village elder David Wasike, who is also a neighbour, they learnt of the incident after first realizing that the victim, Fatuma Musumba, who tends her cows in the morning was missing, and this raised their attention. He said that he went to her homestead, and after peeping through the broken window he saw the deceased’s body on the floor, in a pool of blood, moreover, it was evident that she was strangled. He said that he called security officers from Kiminini Police Station who responded quickly and arrived at the scene to confirm the incident.
Her sister-in-law Rehema Kalenje gave her account, saying that she rushed to her compound after getting the news, “When I arrived at the homestead, I found the window was broken and after entering the deceased’s room, I noticed that some valuables were missing, including a TV set and her mobile phone,” she said.
The sister to the deceased Nakhumicha Musumba also gave her account, outlining that she was informed of her sister’s demise via a phone call, citing a possibility of a rape case too. She said it’s possible that the perpetrators knew her homestead very well, given that the way the heinous act was done suggests it was pre-planned.
Her brother urged the security officers to do thorough investigations and unearth the culprits. He urged residents who may have information concerning the incident to cooperate with police so that all those involved can be brought to book. The deceased’s body was moved to Cherangany Nursing Home, with investigations starting immediately.
