Preparations for the swearing-in ceremony of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto are well underway, according to the Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua. Addressing the press at Kasarani, Kinyua said the date of 28th November has already been gazetted and that any insecurity fears should be dispelled, “The Kenyan government and this Assumption Committee have done everything possible to ensure that day, after and even before that day, there would be security in this country,” he said, “Kenyans have to be assured that our security team is ready and they have done everything that needs to be done to ensure their security is guaranteed.”
The Chief of Staff, who is also the head of the Assumption to the Office of the President Committee said transport issues will also be well managed “We’ll try to ensure that management of the traffic, especially roads where we expect dignitaries to pass through,” he said. However, he declined to list in detail the foreign dignitaries who have been invited, citing their security is of topmost importance and the government can’t give out classified information.
Moreover, he said the budget allocation for the function stands at more than Kshs 300 million, “What we have been able to put together and we think is adequate is slightly above Kshs 300 million, that is adequate when we look at what we need,” he said. Kinyua reiterated that all Kenyans are invited and that a large turnout is expected on Tuesday.
