Amos Kipruto, a sole Kenyan representative in the 2022 London Marathon won the race in 2:04:39 beating his Ethiopian competitors Kenenisa Pekele and Leul Gebresilase in a well calculated running strategy which saw him all through to the victory.
Kipruto was the only Kenyan competing in the race of giants and many spectators were worried if he could make it to the victory.
According to his wife Mrs. Jane Samoei who followed the race at her residential home in Kabongwa area Nandi, said she was worried if her husband could deliver in the tough Marathon due to his many competitors from Ethiopia who were a threat but she thanked God for enabling her husband win the race.
“At first I was a little nervous having in mind the many Ethiopians in the race but I thank God for seeing my husband through, we are happy as a family and the community at large.” Jane affimed.
Ethiopias’ Leul Gebresilase came in second position in 2; 05:42 while Belgiums’ Bashir Abdi settled at third position respectively.
In Women’s category an Ethiopian won the Marathon, Joyciline Jepkosgey of Kenya clinching second position, Judith Korir fourth and Mary Ngugi in the seventh position respectively.
Nandi residents who followed the race watching on Tvs at their homes and in restaurants in towns were happy with Kipruto’s stunning performance affirming that Nandi County indeed is a Home of Champions.
Nandi County leadership led by Governor Stephen Sang congratulated Kipruto for giving out his best in the tougher competition putting Kabongwa Nandi and Kenya at large in the World Map of Athletics.
