Education PS Belio Kipsang has said tough measures have been put in place to ensure the national examinations sail smoothly and that exam cheating cases will be dealt with firmly. Speaking after inspecting an exam papers container at Lang’ata, he said exam centres where exam papers are leaked will be closed, “We want to make it very clear if its the first paper and you expose it, the exam in that centre ends that day,” he said.
He urged parents and teachers to give the students time to prepare, given that there are no term breaks and prayer days, “We are telling our teachers and parents let’s give our children the time to prepare and do exams in the next one month,” he said. The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam is set to kick off on 30th October, with rehearsals set for the 29th, while the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education will be done between November 2nd and 28th.
On his part, KNEC Chairman George Magoha said the exam cheating cartels are still around, “The cheating cartels are actually alive and booming and they involve some teachers, and some crooks and some fake entrepreneurs,” he said. He said candidates are busy revising leaked papers instead of the syllabus, adding that they are doing so at their own peril.
