After a long wait, hawkers together with matatu operators in Kitale have forcefully intruded into the Kitale bus stage whose construction has been completed but not officially opened by Governor Trans Nzoia Governor Patrick Khaemba. The traders blamed the Governor for delaying the launch of the stage, leading to the forceful intrusion.
Last month the Kitale traders together with matatu operators had threatened to start using the stage, claiming brokers were put in position to lease the spot to other traders.
Several leaders led by Kwanza MCA Sarah Lubano and Kiminini MP Dr. Chris Wamalwa had also called upon the Governor to officially open the stage and ease the traffic snarl ups witnessed in and around town.
The MCA claimed the stage was being used by some traders to dry their maize at the expense of legit town traders who ate operating at a filthy spot that was poorly managed.
They traders on their part pledged to pay the County tax and called on the County administration to work with them to enhance smooth operation for their trade. They’ve also lauded the County government for constructing the stage to facilitate their operations.
