Head of Public Service Felix Koskei alongside other senior government officials including CS health Susan Nakhumicha, COG chair Ann Waiguru on Tuesday addressed the press and highlighted government measures to end the doctor’s strike.
The Council of Governors chairperson COG Anne Waiguru in her address directed county governments to take necessary measures to ensure Kenyans continue getting medical services after doctors unions snubbed the meeting to sign an end of strike documents.
Health CS Susan Nakhumicha, revealed that the ministry had directed the health council to move to court over the defying of court order by the striking doctors.
Commenting on the issue of counties firing its doctors, she said that each county has its own Human resource policy and each county is a respective employer adding that each county is independent.
The Government on Monday gave doctors until Tuesday 23rd April 2024 to conclude their discussions and give a way forward to the ongoing strike, insisting that the negotiations they have been having have already achieved 96% of the desired outcome.
Speaking at the KICC after a day long waiting period for the doctors union officials to sign a return to work agreement, head of public service Felix Kosgey said the government side had agreed to postpone the signing that was slated for yesterday to today even as some of the members in the committee felt the doctors were taking too much time to come to the table.
A return to work formula drafted by representatives of both sides is now a subject of discussion by the doctors union as it is understood that they are taking a vote this evening on whether to call off the strike or suspend it.
