The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has issued several guidelines that candidates expected to sit for this year’s national examinations are expected to hold on to, in an attempt curbing exam malpractice.
In an announcement on Wednesday, it outlined specific items that are prohibited from exam rooms as the organization prepares itself to preside over the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) set to begin on October 30 and October 23 respectively.
The examination body outlined specific items that are prohibited from exam rooms. They include; wristwatches and programmable calculatorsThe Council also clearly affirmed that handbags, briefcases, backpacks, and kiondos will not be allowed in exam rooms.
Other items that will not be allowed in the examination rooms include electronic items such as mobile phones, smart watches, earphones, tablets, body cameras, camera pens, and items with Bluetooth capabilities
KNEC also prohibited the use of clothing, footwear, or materials with handwritten notes.
In addition, the Council highlighted its vigilance in preventing candidates from having any writings on their bodies, except for declared tattoos, which are exempted from the list of prohibited materials.
KNEC maintained that it expects candidates to be honest and maintain integrity throughout the course of the exams. Candidates will also be required to report for their exams on time which will enhance the timeliness and reduce anxiety.
