The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights KNHCR has toured Trans Nzoia County to discuss various issues of how to advance the agenda of human rights within the county and the entire country as well as ensuring the forth coming general elections is free and fair.
The team led by Vice Chair for the Commission Raymond Nyeris paid a courtesy call to the County Commissioner of Trans Nzoia office Sam Ojwang where they were using a multi agency approach to ensure they protect and promote human rights
He stated that they were also engaging with boda boda operators in the county with a view of educating them on their human rights issues as well as on how to behave whenever they are attacked noting that they are humans and need to be protected as some of their rights also are
violated.
The Commission vice chair was reacting to the recent incident in Nairobi where boda boda operators poorly mishandled a woman driver after being involved in an accident during which several women groups, advocates as well as leaders criticized the act claiming they misbehaved in addressing their issues as it was unruly and indecent.
The chair noted that it was wrong the way boda boda operators reacted, as the way they expressed their anger was beyond reproach, however, he said the man that was hit by the woman driver needs justice despite
several organizations supporting the woman involved in the accident.
“We cannot talk and defend about justice for one side and leave out justice for the victim that was hit by the car driver let the law apply in equal measures without discriminating any”, said vice chair.
He stated that as watchdogs of human rights, they will defend all the humans whose their rights are violated without favor
