The Kenya National Union of Teachers( KNUT) Nandi East/Tindiret Branch conducted an election to fill the position of a vice chair which was left vacant after Mr Tireito Biwott was given the post of the Chief officer for Roads by the County administration.
The election which was conducted by the labour office went on successfully and was held during the Annual General Meeting for Nandi East and Tindiret Branch at Samoei Boys Secondary School in Nandi hills constituency.
Simion Lagat, who is the head teacher at Kipteleng’wo primary school, scooped the KNUT vice chair position with 182 votes while his opponent William Kipkemei Munai of Chelambut primary school garnered a total of 115 votes.
Simion Kurgat Sego, a senior teacher at Kipyaor primary school, came third with 25 votes followed by Kipchumba Songok who had 23 votes and Isaack Kiprono with 11 votes.
Addressing teachers after the elections, the newly elected KNUT Nandi East/Tindiret Branch vice chair Mr. Simion Lagat thanked the members for granting him the opportunity to serve them and pledged to serve diligently.
KNUT leaders who spoke led by Mr. Hesbon Otieno and the union’s second national woman representative Jacinta Ndegwa spoke about the delocalization programme and the strain it causes to families, who are separated.
