Kapsabet Diocese Anglican Bishop Dr Paul Korir has urged the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) to pave way for a dialogue with the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) in order to find a lasting solution to the differences that prompted the calling of a teachers’ strike. KNUT Secretary General had noted that the strike was to start on 2nd January. Bishop Korir said the mass transfer of teachers is more like a punishment for teachers, “The Teachers Service Commission should consider the employee and have public relation,” he said. On Tuesday, TSC officials skipped talks with KNUT, in a move faulted by Sossion, “The employer is working in bad faith and cannot start playing tricks when we come for conciliation,” said Sossion, who added that the strike is set to take off as planned, on 2nd January. The KNUT boss urged teachers transferred to other schools not to report to their new posts, after TSC revealed the transfer more than 3,000 school heads back in December.
Moreover, Bishop Korir has lauded the decision by President Uhuru Kenyatta to apologize for the mix up concerning the implementation of the new curriculum, after the Education Ministry insisting it’s meant to be rolled out this month. Addressing the Anglican faithful at St Barnabas ACK church, Korir said that if the Education Ministry has decided it’s too early to implement the new curriculum then they shouldn’t rush it. He further lauded the security agencies for maintaining security during the festive period.
