An independent candidate in the Matungu mini poll has voted for another candidate.
Anzelimo Kongoti who sought to represent the people of Matungu in the national assembly pulled out of the race and decided to throw his weight behind United Democratic Alliance’s Alex Lanya.
Kongoti confirmed this in an exclusive interview with West Media a few minutes after casting his vote for Lanya at the Mwira primary school polling station.
“I have voted for my brother Lanya of UDA this morning and not myself despite my name being on the ballot.” He said.
“This is a decision I made and I will stand by it”, He added.
Kongoti who has tried his luck for a number of times has been in the Matungu politics for some time and has vied for the seat severally without success.
The Matungu parliamentary seat fell vacant after the demise of the then member of the national assembly Justus Murunga.
Voters at the Mwira polling centre had earlier complained of delays in voting but the issue was since solved.
Addressing the media at the same time in Malava constituency, member of the national assembly thanked the residents for waking up early to practice their democratic rights.
“Seeing the ques here reminds of the general elections, one can’t tell if this is just but a by-election,” said Injendi.
