Korisai and Kakapel communities in Teso North Sub County have benefited from lightning arresters which were officially handed over by Chief Officer in the governor’s office, Ezekiel Okwach.

The Sh 4.6 million projects were installed by Yard Fields (K) Limited with the aim of rescuing pupils and local communities from lightning strikes which proved a nightmare since 1970s when many pupils of Katakwa primary were killed from the strike.

The Korisai community in Malaba North Ward remembers with nostalgia the 2005 incident where lightning struck Korisai primary school killing seven pupils on the spot.

Three members of the same family and one university student were killed after lightning strike in December 2018.

The lightning struck the family while they were in their house in Kakapel village. Three others were injured during the incident.

Angurai South MCA Grace Tata Olita said she had factored Ksh. 2m for the installation of other lightning arresters in Katakwa which she said has a history of lightning strikes.
