Western region soccer U16 champions Koyonzo boys eclipsed close neighbours Goseta of Rift Valley region after a 1-0 win to book a spot for KSSSA national semi-final in the ongoing Kisumu championships.

After winning one and losing one group stage match, Koyonzo’s chances of getting to the semis were hanging on the laces of Goseta boys who had equally lost once and won one match.

Amos Juma Wasike’s side, Goseta, however, accepted a bitter humiliation to let go of the fight.

Koyonzo coach Eliud Okwemba said the win did not come easily though he believes North Eastern side Boystown tackle at the semi-final on Friday will be much tactical. “The boys played well and registered a win. We, therefore, shift focus on our semi-final match against Boystown whom we saw thrashing their opponents 6 goals. We’re up for higher concentration and we do promise the best,” said Okwemba

The other U16 semi-final match will see Serani and Dagoreti lock horns in search of a ticket to play the final on Saturday.

In other results, Bukokholo girls qualified for the semi-final despite a 40-22 thrashing in the hands of Nyakach to finish second in their group.

Bukokholo is however expected to entertain former national champions Kaya Tiwi from the Coast at the semi-final on Friday.

Maeni girls settled for a barren draw against Kobala on Thursday to finish at the top of the group in soccer U16 girls, and are expected to engross Njabini in Friday’s semi-final.

Namwela boys received a hammering of 3 sets to 1 in the hands of Langata to finish second in their volleyball boys group. Namwela is however expected to play Nyanza region’s Magonga in the semi-final.

In the volleyball girls category, Bishop Sulumeti girls accepted the second loss on Thursday against Cheptil to go off the chance to the semi-final.

Arch Bishop Njenga Girls on their side will play Nyakach in the first U19 girls semi-final after comfortably thrashing Gasero 5~0 on Thursday to top the group.

It will be another bitter dissension against Western and Rift valley regions in soccer U19 as Ebwali Secondary school are set to entertain former National Champions St Anthony’s Boys Kitale in the second semi-final match on Friday. Dagoreti and Olbolsat are playing the first semi today, as Friday’s early kick off.
