A 75-year-old granny from Lower Kware village in Mautuma location is nursing multiple injuries at Lumakanda County Hospital in Lugari Sub County after she was assaulted and raped by a 22-year-old man on Wednesday night. Area chief, Mrs Pamela Davava Kulali told West Media, the assailant manoeuvred into the granny’s house at about 4am where he inflicted serious machete injuries before he raped her severally.
“He attacked the elderly woman with a machete, cut her on the head, hands and left leg and raped her before he disappeared,” said Mrs. Kulali, adding the early morning incident did not attract the attention of immediate neighbours.
According to the local administrator, it was until late morning when one of the neighbours raised the alarm upon visiting the victim’s house where she found her bleeding and writhing in pain.
The granny was rushed to the hospital where, after initial first aid treatment, she was able to recall the assailant rapist.
Police officers managed to arrest the suspect who was then placed in custody at Turbo police station.
“The suspect was arrested while still in blood-stained clothes,” said the local administrator. Davava added that the suspect is an immediate neighbour to the granny.
