Residents of Milo Sub location in Sitikho ward of Webuye West Constituency have urged the county government of Bungoma to rescue Milo Health Centre that its services have gone down due to lack of electricity.
Speaking to www.westfm.co.ke while at the hospital premises, the residents revealed that the hospital has been operating without electricity for two months after KPLC disconnected it owing to Ksh. 10, 000 bill arrears.
Led by Aineah Mucheusi a local resident, they accused the area MCA Martin Wafula Wawire for not looking into the matter at the the only health center that gives services to Sitikho ward residents.
“I am a resident of this area and we have suffered for long regarding medication because services at our hospital have deteriorated due to lack of electricity that was disconnected by KPLC because of the debt of Kshs. 10,000 only,” stated Mucheusi.
The residents went on to reveal that young children miss monthly immunization because drugs are never preserved well due to lack of power, patients are never tested on the type of sickness they suffer from instead are observed by clinical officer and later sent to test elsewhere and buy drugs on their own.
He urged the area MCA to ensure the Kshs. 10,000 bill to Kenya Power is settled so that the hospital resumes its normal operations saying this is one reason as to why he was voted in by the locals.
They furthered that the hospital does not have vital items for medication including drugs, something that compels them to buy drugs elsewhere and yet they always hear that the county government supplies drugs.
“In fact we don’t have enough drugs in this Health center because most of the time when you come for medication you are prescribed to drugs that are not available here,” said a resident.
“It seems it supplies a few drugs that cannot cater for all patients and when the drugs are over the county takes long to bring more,” he added.
Patients who are referred in the Health center from other dispensaries find challenges and difficulties because when they reach the Health centre, they are never attended to. They are instead forced to seek for alternatives thus go as far as to Kakamega County to get treatment.
“Patients from Khalala and Kuywa Dispensaries are referred here but when they come they find half working hospital. They are forced to travel up to Webuye County Hospital or to go to the neighboring Kakamega County to seek for medication.” Said Kutenga.
They accused their MCA for not fulfilling his promises of voicing the matters that affect the locals and wanted him to push the county government to provide enough facilities in the hospital.
“Our MCA promised to bring electricity in Kuywa Dispensary and up to now nothing has happened, therefore I plea to him to be fulfilling his promises because he is our leader who we elected to represent us,” he added
They urged the Area MCA Martin Wafula Wawire in conjunction with the county government of Bungoma to look into the problem on time so as residents can get better medication.
