The National government through the Ministry of Lands has launched the Land use, planning, monitoring and oversight guidelines to help in giving out directions concerning the use of land. Addressing the public at Kapsabet Boys High school, the National Lands Commission chairman Muhammad Swazuri said the guidelines will assist in proper planning as it constitutes the advisory to all county governments, state parties, individuals and other actors engaged in one way or other in preparation, approval and implementation of land use plans.
Swazuri revealed that the Constitution requires that land shall be held, used, and managed in a manner that is equitable, efficient, productive and sustainable and this can only be achieved through proper land use planning.
He said his commission had been working tirelessly to ensure land issues are solved, giving an example of Nandi County where the commission has reverted back thousands of stolen land to the government including school and forest land.
The Lands Commission chairman added that the Commission is spearheading reforms in the land sector by regulating land use planning and other instruments.
He cited that he is being attacked for his achievements in the commission and he will not be micromanaged to serve the interests of a few people. The commission has formulated regulations on land injustices which will help tackle the land issues and solve them amicably.
