Emmanuel Situma will be in charge of Bungoma County Assembly as the Speaker after flooring former Khalaba ward MCA Majimbo Okumu by garnering 37 votes against 24 in a hotly contested battle.
The race had initially attracted four contestants; Phylis Wangwe, Noel Makeni, Majimbo Okumu and Emmanuel Situma with the latter managing to retain the seat.
Soysambu/ Mitua ward MCA Stephen Wafula Wamalwa was elected as the Deputy Speaker after defeating Kaptama ward MCA Francis Chemion and thanked the members of the County Assembly for bestowing the responsibility on him.
He called upon Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka together with the executive members he will put in place to ensure they follow the law in implementing government projects saying they will not relent in exercising their mandate in the house.
Chesikaki ward MCA Jacob Psero thanked residents of his ward for electing him saying he will ensure the challenges they face including lack of water, poor road network and dilapidated bridges are things of the past.
