Kiminini MP Dr. Chris Wamalwa and his Kimilili counterpart Didmus Barasa have urged ODM leader Raila Odinga to stop frustrating IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati. Speaking during the funeral of the late James Lusweti Mukwe, Wamalwa said Raila is fond of frustrating Luhya leaders and was behind his removal from the minority whip position.
On Friday, Raila faulted IEBC for asking for more money to conduct the BBI referendum and verification of signatures. He intimated that the IEBC officials plan to interfere with the BBI process, saying they should step down, “Let them resign and give us an opportunity to hire a new team that can deliver results.”
Wamalwa said if the ODM leader has a problem with the IEBC, he should channel his grievances through parliament. He said Luhyas are tired of being deceived and used by other communities, “Come 2022, we can’t carry outsiders and we have one of us,” he added. He said the community is suffering, citing that leaders from the region kept quiet when KEMRI Director, Dr. Joel Lutomiah, was demoted.
Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa blasted Raila, saying he isn’t a prefect of state machinery and shouldn’t inspect how things are run, “Let Chebukati finish his job.” He said the late Wamalwa Kijana and Wetangula were also frustrated by the ODM leader, “We used to tell you (Wetangula) Raila isn’t our friend.” Moreover, he urged leaders to serve the electorate who elected them, to ensure development and progress are realized.
