Lecturers are threatening to issue a strike notice if their 2013-2017 agreement of a salary increment will not have been implemented.
Kibabii University UASU Secretary General Dr. Robert Nyukuri says the notice will last 21 days and if the government will not have implemented the salary increment they will officially begin their strike.
He says the grace period will be enough given that the newly elected President will be in power and he will be in a position to sort out vital issues in the country.
Dr. Nyukuri further faulted the SRC for harmonizing their salaries saying it did not consider the different levels of education for the lecturers and professors, adding that some are on contract and need to be treated differently.
“We have taken the commission to court and we as university lecturers will not relent when it comes to fighting for our rights. They have to evaluate job enumeration and description before implementing what they are proposing,” he said.
He added that the process needs to be analyzed again to ensure the lecturers get their fair share accordingly, saying they normally go through a lot to lecture students.
However, he called upon the government through the Ministry of Education to implement the CBA on time so as to avert the strike saying they got allowances in their previous demands that they tabled and their currents demands are lower hence manageable.
