More than a hundred students drawn from various schools from Matulo ward, most of them who are orphans and less privileged got their education boosted after a non governmental organization paid part of their fees which amounted to a half a million from Steve Kaiser Foundation. Addressing parents and the beneficiaries at Malaha chiefs center in Webuye West constituency on behalf of the Kaiser foundation, Mr. Isaac Wanjekeche said after corona virus hit the country most people were affected others loosing their jobs that helped them pay fees and that informed the basis of the foundation to chip in and help the needy and mostly orphans.
Wanjekeche added that most youths who are students were loitering on the roads due to lack of fees and could have caused more early pregnancies among students and therefore the fees will at least help them stay in school and continue learning, as parents continue looking for the remaining balance without straining so much. He confirmed that form fours who are set to sit for their final exams in March were given the first priority so that they could remain in school and prepare fully for their final exams without any disruption, in order to get the best results.
He urged the beneficiaries to add more efforts in their education as the foundation has bigger plans to make sure that they support the less privileged but bright students. He asked parents to give guiding and counselling to their children so that they can prioritize their education and shun from behaviors that could affect negatively on their future lives. The area asst. Chief Bramwel Kachelo encouraged students to work hard in school so that they can attract more funding as bursaries can’t be enough for everyone. He also appreciated the good gesture made by the Kaiser foundation to help the needy students to get education.
Mr. Kachelo insisted that there are parents who are still having their children at home while others are going on with education and warned any that will be found will be arrested and charged accordingly. He requested them to make sure all children go to school including those that are pregnant as education law allows them to be in class throughout until they are due for delivery. Parents who got the fees support appreciated the move saying it came at the right time as most of them are going through rough time especially after the outbreak of corona virus that impacted negatively on them economically as students promised to work hard and attain the best results.
