Children of today have gone astray and lost manners, a trend that is worrying for the next generation. Westfm Kata Jasho fans expressed their fears that if stern measures will not be put in place, the next generation is going to be messy.
They say children have adopted bad behaviors ranging from clothing, eating and drinking. What they wear is pathetic and shameful. Some children have become rude and because they lack well cultured behaviors and guidance, they think they are above the law something that is attributed to their parents bad upbringing.
Most of these young children know beyond their age, take part in drinking alcohol, use bhang and even sexual intercourse as early as anyone couldn’t expect. Sometime back children belonged to the whole community and in case of any misbehavior one would be rectified by anyone above them but nowadays anyone who does that will be putting themselves in hot soup as the parents will come for you and even put you in jail.
Many have been recruited in bad gangs that have raided people’s houses or even attacked people to an extend of being jailed. Parents have been rendered powerless and sometimes have no idea of what their children are capable of doing in the name of being busy to handle some things. One fan Mickey Wa Maresi blamed mothers for always defending their children even in the worst mistakes they commit citing the struggles she went through during pregnancy.
He says canes should just be reintroduced in schools as a means of disciplining wrong doers. Some fans said no single parent should be blamed but all saying the way we bring up our children will determine the kind of generation we want.
Rev Timothy Masinde says the problem occurs too when a child makes a mistake wants to be punished by one parents and takes the intervention of the other to stop the correction, adding that this stirs up bad blood between them. A child knowing that if one parent wants to punish him/her, she or he can always run for safety to the other parent is wrong.
Early pregnancies have been witnessed because parents are not talking to their children about the consequences of interacting in this early sexual behaviors and even others going to an extend of sleeping with their relatives whom they have never met and fall for each other. They say if children will be left to be corrected by teachers in schools and as parents ignore their roles it will be difficult for a better generation.
The fans insisted that any adult who finds a child going astray to rectifying them without fear of contradiction like it was back in the days. Their concerns comes after several incidences of torching down schools and misbehaving badly attracting a heavy penalty from parents while others run away from schools and when forced to go backend up murdering their parents. An example of the Kisuluni Secondary School boy in Bungoma who after his father forced him back to school killed him.
