Likuyani sub county Maendeleo ya Wanawake chair Mrs. Rose Asiko Wandera has asked security apparatus in the area to beef up patrols and assure all women of their security in the process.
Speaking to West Media, Mrs. Wandera expressed her disappointment over increased incidents of rape and murder targeting ladies in the sub county.
She said it was disheartening that a total of four women have lost their lives to rapists in October.
She said women especially widows and single mothers had become endangered in the sub county since they are targeted by the rapists, adding that in all the four incidents, the women affected were living without spouses.
The chair has called upon the security officers to get out of their slumber and perform their duties as required, saying it is unacceptable to continue losing innocent lives in such cruel manner. “So far we have buried three innocent souls who include 24 year old Winter Ganigi, 65 year old Jerusa Obware and her 13 year old niece Melvyn Dindi. And now we are preparing to bury 75 year old granny Truphosa Isebwe. All four were killed after being raped, just in this month of October,” said Mrs. Wandera.
She called upon the police department to increase patrols in the area and also strengthen the community policing and ‘Nyumba Kumi’ initiative.
