Local administrators have managed to close down all major illicit brew and drinking dens in Kipsomba location in soy sub county, Uasin Gishu county.
In a crackdown conducted in Chemororoch village led by area Chief Daniel Busienei together with two assistant chiefs James Sirma
and Paul Bet of Kipsomba and Mobet sub locations respectively with help from village elders, hundreds of liters of illicit brew and
the brewing apparatus were destroyed.
Speaking to West Media after the successful crackdown, Mr. Busienei regretted the high number of residents who have resorted to drinking the brew with the number of brewers also increasing in the area.
He said following the government’s move to close bars as one of the measures to curb the spread of Coronavirus majority of drunkards in
the area have decided to take the outlawed brew.
He said it was disappointing that some of them were even hiding in the bushes to take the brew and were not observing the safety measures put by
the government in the efforts to fight Coronavirus.
Chief Busienei vowed that the swoops will continue to ensure that the
area is rid of illicit brew adding that those who will be arrested will be taken into a mandatory 14 day quarantine at their own cost at
Kaplelet secondary school where already close to 100 residents are being quarantined.
The administrator warned residents who had chosen to engage in the vice to quit and find other alternative legal businesses pledging not to relent in the fight.
During the crackdown over 200 liters of illicit brew were destroyed and one person was arrested.
