Residents of Sitabicha area in Matisi ward, Trans Nzoia County, have breathed a sigh of relief after an aspiring Member of County Assembly constructed a culvert bridge on a river within to facilitate communication.
Mrs. Alice Furaha who is a member of the Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) mobilized resources to help establish the bridge that will address the challenges that have for long been faced by residents.
“I decided to assist my people since their persistent calls on the relevant government agencies to have a bridge put up were ignored. This is a clear indication that we need the right leadership,” said Mrs. Furaha.
Locals who have been facing it rough, said the project is handy since it will not only enable them to cross over easily but it will also bring an end to deaths that are normally witnessed in the region during heavy rains.
“This river has claimed lives of those who dared to cross over in the waters during the rainy season. This aid is timely since it will enable us to have safe and secure transport on either side of the village,” said Pastor Andrew Wafula.
The bridge was abandoned despite an outcry following a confusion whether the road should be maintained by the county government courtesy of area MCA Obed Mwale or area MP Caleb Amisi’s office.
The commissioning was also graced by several aspirants among them former Saboti MP David Wafula, Woman representative hopeful Phanice Khatundi,Eunice Karanja and several MCA aspirants from neighbouring wards.
