Labour Principal Secretary, Khadijah Kassachon has faulted looming strikes in public schools citing that they are affecting learners’ education.
The PS advised learners to embrace discipline and shun from engaging in strikes for them to get good results in the national examinations.
Khadijah Kassachon who hails from the area reiterated that learners in schools should have disciple for them to maintain their academic performance.
“Indiscipline in schools is not good. Learners should not engage themselves in vices and forget about education. I learned under a tree and I didn’t burn the school,” she said.
Kassochon observed that strikes in schools across the country have caused a lot of damages.
“Schools have experienced huge losses and parents are suffering because of the strikes. Strikes makes learners to stay at home and miss learning when suspended or expelled from school,” said Kassachon.
Speaking after visiting Meshack Tumkou Secondary and Nasokol School in West Pokot to laud students after performing well in last year’s KCSE Examination, the PS encouraged learners to focus on education and have respect for teachers and parents.
“Students should have good manners and respect the authority,”said Kassachon.
Kassochon pointed out that without discipline one cannot succeed in life.
She however dismissed allegations that learners emulate bad behaviors from politicians.
“You should not become a drunkard because your father was a drunkard. Students should do what they are supposed to do and not copy anything from politicians,” she said.
Kassachon urged parents in the area to take children to school especially girls for development to be realized in the area.
“We have realized that we have many boys in schools than girls,” she said, I urge parents to take their girls to schools also so that we may realize full development as a community.” she added.
