Activities along the busy Lumakanda – Stand Kisa road in Lugari Sub County were halted for a great part of the day when angry boda boda operators jammed the road complaining over the shoddy work that was going on, on the road.
Led by their Chairman Bakar Ayub and John Yagwai the angry operators took to the road and stopped the rehabilitation work accusing the contractor of doing poor work.
They alleged that instead of gravelling the road the contractor was leveling it using swamp mud claiming to be murram thus rendering the road totally impassable.
They claimed that there was a mismatch between the quality of the work and the expenditure where the 16km road deplorable had been allocated sh. 10m for rehabilitation and gravelling but to them the ongoing work was not worth that amount.
The motorcyclists who camped on the road for the great part of the day said unless the mud was removed and replaced with murram they wouldn’t allow the contractor to continue with the sub-standard work.
Thanking the boda boda operators for their move, Enos Gibera, a local leader said he had earlier raised concern to the contractor but his complaints were received with arrogance.
“He told me to take him wherever I wish if I think he is doing poor work,” said Mr. Gibera
It took the intervention of Lugari sub county police commander Bernard Ngungu and Constituency officer manager Boaz Bulimu to calm the situation before normalcy returned on the busy road.
Mr. Bulimu promised to work closely with the regional road engineer Edwin Cheserek to ensure quality work is done.
