Lugari Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Mrs Agnes Karoki Shadrack, has assured
area residents of enhanced security measures ahead of forthcoming general elections.
Mrs Karoki made the assurance when she addressed a village Baraza at Mwamba sub location where she noted all security organs were well prepared for the elections.
“Our security agencies are well prepared and will not hesitate to legally deal with anybody who would be out to engage in election malpractices,” said Mrs Karoki.
The Lugari DCC used the forum to caution politicians seeking votes for various elective seats in the area against using inciting language, insisting anyone caught engaging in the vice would be dealt with according to the law.
“As politicians seek votes from the electorate, we ask them to desist from polarizing residents of Lugari Sub County along tribal lines,” warned Mrs Karoki who urged the leaders to instead preach and spread peace messages in their campaigns.
The Sub County boss further assured the locals that security organs had increased daily patrols, especially in areas prone to criminal activities.
She cited Mwamba trading centre as one of the areas that have been adversely hit by burglary of trading units in recent past. She appealed to shop owners at the market to consider employing night security guards so as to help curb increasing crime rate, particularly burglary, in the area.
“They should employ youthful and energetic as watchmen but not elderly people,” she added.

Mrs Karoki emphasized the importance of the sentinels being thoroughly vetted under location security committees presided over by chiefs before the shop owners engage them in formal employment.
“Security issues should be a collective responsibility and not just left to police officers alone,” she told the locals, urging them to always tip security officers of any individuals with suspicious movements or occurrences.
The official who was accompanied by area OCPD Bernard Macharia and the Sub County administration police commander Mrs. Margaret Mwalua among othe departmental heads further warned the locals against the brewing and consumption of illicit drugs and liquors.
“I direct chiefs and assistant chiefs in conjunction with security officers to conduct regular raids in order to assist eradicate the vice from this region,” instructed Mrs Karoki.
