A family in Lumama village, Lugari sub location, Lugari Sub County has been put under quarantine after one of its members is suspected to have come in contact with a Kakamega patient who tested positive for the Coronavirus.
A team of medics led by Lugari sub county medical officer of health (MOH) Dr. Patrick Ndambuki and the administration led by the area deputy County commissioner Mr. William Lenaremo visited the home of the family member. The entire family has been ordered to observe a 14 day self-quarantine.
The suspect who is married in Lumama had visited her parents at Musanda in Mumias West sub county where she is alleged to have come in contact with a Covid-19 patient.
The lady is said to have travelled back to her matrimonial home in Lumama on Thursday where she joined the rest of the family before report of her movements and presence in the village spread, prompting the officers to visit the compound, testing and directing them to self quarantine.
However, the lady has denied that she was in close contact with the patient, arguing that her brother, who is currently quarantined at the Kakamega Referral Hospital, is the one who was in contact with the patient.
She however disclosed that she spent most of the time with her brother, preparing the farm land for the planting season after he had already associated with the Covid-19 patient who is admitted at the Mbagathi Hospital.
The medics ordered the entire family of about fifteen people to take 14 days self quarantine at their home after close contact with the lady as a safety measure in case her test result turns out positive.
On his part, the deputy County commissioner William Lenaremo warned neighbors against stigmatizing the family, and urged them to keep loving them while observing the required precautions inluidng social distancing among others.
