A sombre mood enveloped Kisangula village in Lumakanda location, Lugari Sub County after a wall of a house collapsed and killed one person. According to the deceased’s daughter Miriam Shisiali, her father Protus Odinga Shimonya, 52, was demolishing an old house they used to live in earlier when he met his demise.
She said the family had spent a joyful part of the morning together before their mother left for church and after taking lunch her father decided to demolish the mud structure after the family had moved into their newly constructed permanent house.
She said they heard a loud bang from outside and immediately the power went off. “We were in the sitting room with my niece watching a movie when we heard a loud bang from outside and immediately the power went off, I sent my niece to rush and tell dad to switch off the power from the main switch to avoid it caused damage,” explained Shisiali who is also a Catholic nun.
She followed her niece immediately and tried to call her father repeatedly but there was no answer. “There were two men who were relaxing at the Kisangula PAG church compound, I rushed there to call for their assistance after I failed to trace my father,” she said.
The two men rushed to the scene and quickly tried to remove the debris where they found Mr. Shimonyo already dead. According to the daughter, her father was demolishing the house from inside and he pushed the front wall without knowing that also the
back one was so weak and immediately the front wall collapsed, the back wall fell on him killing him on the spot.
