Leaders in Lugari Constituency have agreed to work together in order to lift deteriorating academic standards in the area.
Led by Deputy County Commissioner Moses Gicharu, they called on entire education stakeholders in the Sub-County to work together to lift worrying fallen standards of education.
Gicharu believes that there is no single education stakeholder who can work alone so that children remain in school and produce stellar results.
The DCC pleaded with the locals to ensure their children go to school because the government had subsidized the cost of education to manageable levels.
“I tell you that education remains the most reliable transferable asset from parent to his child, unlike assets like vehicles, land or houses which are temporal,” the DCC said during the celebrations of Mashujaa Day at Mlimani Primary School Sports Ground in Mautuma Location.
Gicharu warned parents who fail to pay school fees even in government day schools yet some of them were government employed public officers.
He revealed that government will take action against parents who ignore to support their children in school yet they were capable.
The DCC however, urged local leadership which includes elected leaders, County Government, National Government relevant departments and agencies to lead way on improving education in the Sub-County.
Commissioner Gicharu promised that his office will provide all necessary support including conducting regular public barazas on changing dwindling standards of education in the area.
“It is worrying that our constituency is leading in Kakamega County when it comes to children who drop out of school every year. Personally, I assure you that we will do whatever it takes to ensure that this sad image is changed,” the DCC revealed.
Addressing the same function, area Member of Parliament Nabii Nabwera confirmed that he had organised constituency education stakeholders meeting in two weeks’ time to discuss ways of reclaiming the fallen standards of education.
The MP said he wanted to meet all the head teachers including board of managements together with other key stakeholders so that a map can be drawn on filling the education gaps.

“My number one agenda is education, number two is education and number three is education. This where our strength sits and we must reach there,” he said.
Through Constituency Development Fund, Nabii assured the locals that there will be no school with mad constructed structures in the next few years.
The lawmaker however, pleaded with National and County Government administrative units to question resourced enabled parents who stubbornly decline to pay their children fees.
DCC and the MP were reacting to continuous declining education standards in the area with reports indicating that Lugari schools did not produce even a single straight ‘A’ student in the last Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education results.
