Lugari Deputy County Commissioner William Lenaremo has warned politicians against inciting electorates as the country enters an electioneering period.
Speaking to West Media after chairing security meeting after peace threatening leaflets were dropped in the area at night , Lenaremo warned that security agencies are on high alert and that decisive action will be taken against such politicians in accordance with the law.
The leaflets targeting a certain sub-tribe in the area dotted streets and roads throwing local security agencies into a spin.
Lenaremo said those fueling animosity and tension in the sub county for political reasons will not be tolerated.
He advised the politicians to be issue-based and propagate their manifestos instead of maligning their competitors.
“The politicians who incite the locals against each other would not be spared regardless of their positions,” he warned.
He said police have launched investigations into the incident with an aim of apprehending those behind the typing and circulation of the leaflets.
According to the contents of the leaflet, locals have been instructed not to elect certain Luhya-Sub tribe as an area MP.
“Watu wa Lugari tafadhali msichague Maragoli kama MP 2022 wacha turudishe Mnyore wetu Alex Atingo kijana wa nguvu ahsante Cleophas Malala kwa kusimama na Atingo Savula amekubali, Andabwa amekubali wewe ni nani ukatae….” Read part of the leaflet.
The leaflet has elicited sharp reactions from different politicians implicated in the writings with others calling it cheap propaganda meant to divide people of Lugari along tribal lines.
Followers of different social media platforms from the constituency had an opportunity to express their feelings reacting on the circulated divisive leaflets.
