Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka has urged leaders in the country to focus on matters pertaining development to benefit the electorate saying the move will foster a unity of purpose. Lusaka, while addressing residents during a funds drive to help the completion of Emukusa Church of God in Luanda constituency in Vihiga County, said joint development projects will help leaders to unite people.
He said urged politicians to desist from using funeral services as platforms to highlight their concerns, saying what is said at funerals is later forgotten.
He, however, lauded leaders from the Western region who have embraced the path of reconciliation-notably Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula-saying it will enable the Luhya people to speak with one accord. He said leaders should set aside their political affiliations and ambitions, “I’m very happy when I see our political leaders coming together and reconciling. This move will help us come together and shape our political future,” said Lusaka.
The Senate Speaker noted that Kenyans are seeing the positive impact of the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga, saying it has promoted cohesion and integration among Kenyan political leaders and citizens, “Leaders, particularly those in the National Assembly and Senate, are working together and the nation is more governable,” he said.
Lusaka also urged Kenyans to support President Kenyatta’s war against corruption, a sentiment that was supported by Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo, who urged the government tough disciplinary measures on the corruption culprits, including repossessing their property and recovering the stolen money.
Ottichilo reiterated that the weak legislation in the country paves the way for corruption to thrive, saying some cases drag in court for decades. He said corruption has millionaires within a short period of time.
