Kabuchai MP James Lusweti has pledged to serve the residents of Kabuchai after his election was upheld by the Supreme Court. It was a sigh of relief not only for Lusweti but also for Ford Kenya party. It’s been a rocky path for the MP after his win in the 2017 general election after the Court of Appeal in Kisumu had nullified his election following a successful appeal by his competitor Edward Tale Nabangi. However, Lusweti and the Ford Kenya leadership opted to move to the Supreme Court, which overturned the Appellate Court’s decision.
Speaking after the ruling, Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula said the party is satisfied and lauded the Supreme Court’s decision, saying they’ll stand and work with him. “We wish him luck and he can go and do his duties. Ever since his election he has been taken round and round from one court to another, he didn’t get the chance to serve his constituents as required,” he said. His sentiments were echoed by the Kabuchai MP, who said he had been ‘chained’ but now is free to serve Kabuchai residents, “I want to thank the party leader, the party secretary-general and my fellow MPs, MCAs..right now I’ve been freed by the Supreme Court, I’m going to serve them (Kabuchai constituents), and they know the kind of work I do,” he said, “I’m going to finish all the projects I had started and implement those we had planned to start, so that my people can get development.”
