Vihiga County Commander Elisha Odhiambo has advised owners of M-Pesa shops in the area not to open their businesses very early or to close them very late to reduce cases of being robbed.
This comes after three unknown thugs Tuesday October 13th morning accosted an M-Pesa shop attendant at around 7 am and stole 50,000 shillings cash and phones of unknown value.
The thugs were armed with an AK 47 and are being pursued by the criminal investigations police officers according to Odhiambo.
He said thugs were taking advantage in the wee hours to steal from the unsuspecting businessmen who open their shops at such times.
“There have been three incidences at the said shop, let them be cautious and open their businesses just like thebanks.” said Odhiambo.
Speaking in his office at the County headquarters, the police boss said the thugs shot five times in the air to disperse the surging crown and boda boda operators who wanted to attack them.
“The thugs escaped in a saloon car before the police arrived to arrest them,” said Odhiambo adding that they have good leads that would help them arrest the suspected criminals.
He also called on the public to offer vital information that would help nub the criminals who are at large.
“Let us make use of Nyumba Kumi initiative to identify suspicious strangers amongst ourselves and report to the police to help reduce crime in the area,” added Odhiambo.
