Maize farmers and residents of Misemwa-Sabata area in Matunda location and most parts of Kiminini Sub County have lamented over the looming rates of maize theft within the area. The agitated residents have blamed a group of youths within the area who have been allegedly formed gangs that are terrorizing people and stealing maize that is not ready for harvest.
Speaking to the press, the residents expressed their concern for the continued loss of maize produce through theft which is most likely to cause hunger in the future due to food shortage.
They have also condemned the actions of some of the parents within the Sub-County and the entire County of Trans Nzoia for turning a blind eye and coming in defence of the criminal activities that are being done by some of their children.
They have further called on the government and other instruments of power including the village elders, chiefs and the police unit to jointly form a squad that will hunt and bring these criminals in book before the destruction of most food produce within the area hence low food supply across the nation.
Matunda location area chief Jeremiah Kibunguchi has also condemned the incidents of maize theft within the area and called on the residents to be more vigilant and report any suspicious activity or groups of people for the immediate action to be taken. He warned those involving in such criminal acts to stop with immediate effect or else they will be dealt with mercilessly according to the law.
Kibunguchi finally promised to discuss with area police on patrol to form unit that will hunt down these criminals and in ensuring that are stopped from creating any other havoc within the area. He promised to do everything in their power in making sure that the individuals are charged according to their actions.
