East African Volleyball champions Malava Boys could fail to represent the Western region at the National Finals in Nyeri despite beating Busia champions Butula Boys 3-1 in the finals at Bungoma High School grounds on Saturday.
Butula Principal Daniel Ouma said they filed an appeal after the match after establishing that their opponents had fielded an ineligible player.
On Sunday, Ouma produced evidence indicating that Rotich Kiprop Daniel was a student of St Patrick Iten until the last term before joining Malava this term.
“The rules of the championships are very clear that any students joining a school from another school might stay for 90 days before being eligible to represent their new school in any co-curriculum activity,” he said.
Busia Secondary Schools Sports Association Secretary Charles Okanya said the local County Quality Assurance and Standard Officers will travel to the two schools to investigate the case. If they prove to be true then Butula will go to the national finals for the first time.
