A 44 year old man from Chemichemi village in Mwamba sub location in Lugari sub county set his house on fire over a domestic conflict forcing his family of six to spend the night in the cold.
Confirming the incident, Mwamba sub location assistant Chief Edwin Nashirobe said Philip Kutoyi returned home at about 9pm while drunk and picked a quarrel with his 28 year old wife Zippora Kidogo.
He said the wife gave him food but he later took a club to whip her, ordering her to leave the house together with their four children, which she did and ran for safety.
However while on the way, from a distance she could see their house on fire forcing her to go back where she found neighbors fighting to stop the spread of the fire.
Kutoyi is said to have tried to block neighbors from accessing his compound to help put off the fire but he was overpowered before they managed to put the fire under control though it had already destroyed household property valued at thousands of shillings.
After being overwhelmed by neighbors Kutoyi vanished from the scene.
Police officers from Turbo police station have launched an investigation into the incident.
