A sombre mood engulfed Sikulu B village in Siende location, Misikhu ward in Webuye West constituency after a middle-aged man committed suicide. The body of the man, the late David Barasa Kakasilikhe, was found hanging on a tree in his late brother’s compound.

According to one of the family members, he was called at midnight by his late brother’s wife, who said his brother in law was harassing her and threatening to commit suicide with no tangible reason. She urged him to intervene and when he accompanied her back to her residence, they found the body dangling on a rope tied to an avocado tree, leaving them in shock and disturbed. He said David was a quiet man, and worked as a carpenter at Makhese market.

He added that the late had separated from his wife and was living alone, and he urged police officers to do thorough investigations to ascertain the reasons why he took his life, without even confiding in family members. David Barasa Kakasilikhe had separated with his wife and he was staying alone and wondered why he decided to hang himself at his late brother’s homestead and asked the police to do some investigation into his brothers death and ascertain what could have caused him to take the action without confiding into any family member.

Beatrice Nasimiyu Wanjala who is David’s elder sister, said he was a gentle man and never wanted to share his predicaments with anyone. Being introverted, she said, made it hard to know what was troubling him, but she pointed out that he was emotional and temperamental when provoked. She added that she knew how to deal with any issues he had but this time round she wasn’t aware of any issues.

Moses Wakwabubi Wanjala, one of the clansmen who insisted on following traditions, said the deceased will be buried at night, and his body will be wrapped in a blanket ad afterwards, the grave will be flattened. He also said the tree will be uprooted at midnight.
