Residents of Marrum ‘B’ village in Lugari location, Lugari Sub-County are in shock after a man allegedly dug his own grave before threatening to commit suicide on Tuesday night.
Mrs. Pauline Vugutsa narrated to the press the shocking incident in
which her husband, Mr. Peter Odanga went berserk after leaving an
Eldoret court where he was charged with rape and was released on bond.
“My husband was arrested and presented before the court in Eldoret
where he was charged with raping a neighbour’s wife,” said Vugutsa,
adding the court sent him to a remand where he was locked for one
month.
Vugutsa disclosed her husband became mad upon learning area village
elder, Mrs. Milcah Kibangale had offered to testify against him before
the court, “According to him, the village elder was one of the
family’s closest friends,” added Vugutsa.
Prior to the Tuesday night incident, it is claimed the rowdy husband
had caused wanton destruction after he damaged household kitchenware
whose value was yet to be established.

The man’s condition was said to have worsened on Tuesday night when he
engaged the wife and their six children in a night long altercation,
threatening to kill all of them.
“But at about 2am on Wednesday he stormed out of the house with a ‘jembe’ in his hand and started digging a grave next to the house and he threatened to kill me, our five sons, our daughter and our village elder before committing suicide in the grave,” recounted Vugutsa.
The man left the compound at about 6am to an unknown destination. According to Vugutsa, she has never experienced peace since she got married to the man whom she accused of being irresponsible and negligent. “He never fends for his family, but he is quick to spend the little he earns on illicit brews,” remarked Vugutsa who further blamed her matrimonial parents for failing to intervene and help put the son on the right track.
On her part, Mrs. Kibangale told journalists trouble started on 15th
August 2016 when she presented herself as one of the witnesses lined
up to testify against the case facing the man at the Eldoret court.
“Since we left the court, Odanga has been hurling insults at me and threatening to kill me,” she said, adding that she is now calling on area security agencies to provide her with maximum security.
Odanga was recently released on a bond of Sh.200,000. Lumakanda Officer Commanding Station (OCS), Mr. William Oyugi confirmed the incident. Both women recorded statements at Lumakanda police station on Wednesday.
