A middle aged lorry driver escaped death narrowly on Thursday along the Maraba-Meteitei road in Tinderet after he lost control of his vehicle and veered off the bridge.
The driver was heading to Meteitei when he lost control and veered off the Labuiywo bridge connecting Gubere-Maraba-Timboroa road. He suffered minor injuries and was treated and discharged at Maraba hospital.
Residents of the region have decried the poor state of the bridge which they revealed was demolished by Sobetra Company to allow for a reconstruction two years ago but to date, nothing has been done. They said that 3 people have escaped death narrowly at the bridge within a period of three months, including 2 motorists. “We’ve been complaining about the state of the bridge for long but to date no one has come to our help,” said one of the residents. They’ve urged the national government to take up the grievance.
