Residents of Mwivona village in Marakusi sub location have been left in shock after the body of a 30 year old man was found dangling on a rope while holding a torch in his hand.
The body of Patrick Lukungu was found on Monday morning by a woman who had gone to fetch water from Lumakanda stream.
“I had just filled the bucket with water and as I lifted it to put it on my head, I saw somebody standing inside a house that was under construction across in the neighbouring Mwivona village. I tried to greet him but he didn’t reply, on looking carefully I saw a rope in his neck hanging from the rafters,” said Pamela Wanakacha a resident of Bondeni village in Munyuki sub location who was forced to cross the stream to inform Lukungu’s family.
According to the deceased’s father Mr. Daniel Sisa Makokha he had spent the previous day well with his son constructing the house and he didn’t tell him if he had any problem.
“We spent the day here constructing this house which I had decided to put up for him, he never told me if there was anything disturbing him and we parted at about 9pm when he went to sleep before I received the shocking news of his death,” said Mr. Sisa.
He said despite hanging himself at night, it was more shocking how he was still firmly holding a torch in his right hand.
Addressing residents at the scene, Marakusi sub location assistant chief Edith Ayodi Khakali asked them to seek advice and amicable ways of solving their problems instead of committing suicide.
“We know there so many challenges in life that can lead to depression but it’s good to share your problems so that you can be assisted through guiding and counseling than resorting to suicide,” said Khakali.
The body was removed by officers from Lumakanda police station and taken to Kimbilio mortuary as they launched investigations into the incident.
