Police in Lugari are holding in custody a 22 year old man for killing his mother in-law in Mlimani village Chekalini location.
Confirming the incident Lugari Sub County Police Commander Bernard Ngungu said the deceased (55) who is mentally challenged went to the suspect’s compound Thursday night and knocked on his door before the suspect woke up with a machete and attacked her leaving her unconscious with serious injuries.
The police boss said officers at Chekalini patrol base were informed of a woman who had been dumped on the village path at around 5 am Friday and went to the scene, rescued and rushed her to Lumakanda county hospital where she succumbed while undergoing treatment.
He said his officers went to the suspect’s house where they found clothes and a mosquito net with blood stains.
The suspect who was trying to flee was later arrested with help of local residents as he tried to board a matatu at Chekalini stage and handed him to police.
Ngungu said the suspect is being held at Lumakanda police station as investigations go on before being arraigned in court.
The body was removed and taken to Kimbilio home nursing mortuary in the neighboring Uasin Gishu County.
