A sombre mood gripped the family of the late Martin Kulabusia from Mihuu in Webuye East sub county who succumbed to the Coronavirus while receiving treatment in Nairobi. Kulabusia was laid to rest in Savanaa area in Mihuu, in a function that was presided over by a team of medical experts, security officers and only close relatives and few members of the press were present.
According to the deceased’s brother Dennis Kulabusia, their brother Martin Kulabusia, who worked as a security consultant died at the Nairobi Hospital while receiving treatment. He told the press the medical report indicated that he succumbed to the Coronavirus, “That’s why when the body arrived no one was allowed to view it. We had to wait for the medical team to arrive and the burial was conducted according to the laid down health directives,” he said. He added that the Martin’s children and wife in Geneva could not attend their burial due to the lockdown measures.
The burial service took less than five minutes. The area chief Jamin Ndala and his assistant Sudi Yamame arrived at the compound early in the morning and the chief urged residents to continue observing the health directives to tackle the spread of the Coronavirus, adding that any person who will be found without a mask in the public places will be apprehended and taken to the quarantine centres in Webuye or Bungoma where they’ll be kept for 14 days.
On his part, Webuye East sub county community health officer Alfred Nyongesa lauded the medical staff for doing a good work whenever they are needed, adding that the Health Ministry has put in place clear guidelines for health workers to observe when handling suspected Covid-19 cases and presiding over burials. Nyongesa revealed that the driver who transported the body and another person accompanying him have been placed under house quarantine and that they will be tested to ascertain their status before they go back to Nairobi.
