A 47-year-old man who went missing from his home at Kanungu village, Nambale sub county under unclear circumstances one week ago has been found dead at the banks of river Walatsi near Mungatsi market in Nambale sub county.
Bukhayo East location chief Gerishom Pate says the man, Chrisantus Ongero, was last seen with a woman going to a neighbour’s home who sells liquor before his decomposing body was found on Thursday ten kilometers from his home, “The family reported his disappearance to us last week and we informed the police as we launched hunting for him. But on Thursday at noon I got information from my assistant chief Mr. Lawrence Juma that a body had been discovered at the banks of river Walatsi. We came and after retrieving the body, the family members positively identified it as that of Chrisantus Ongero who had gone missing last week.”
He said the body had severe injuries and it’s presumed he was tortured and killed elsewhere before his body was thrown into the river, “Looking at the state of the body, it did not stay in the water for over two days. He may have been killed elsewhere and thrown in the river in the last two days. But it had a lot of injuries.”
Mr. Pate has confirmed that at least three people have already been arrested following the killing, “The body has been taken to Busia County Referral hospital mortuary where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the real cause of his death. Meanwhile three people including those who were with him the last time he was seen alive have been arrested and taken to Nambale police station to help the police with investigations.”
He has also condemned the incidence and urged locals to desist from taking law in their hands and instead follow the lawful channels to seek justice when wronged.
