A somber mood engulfed Chekalini Township village in Koromait sub location, Lugari sub county after a decomposing body of a 39-year-old man was found inside a house in his employer’s compound.
According to Mr. Casper Khamati, the deceased Alex Tongwa who had been employed by his aunt as a farmhand, was living alone in the compound and it’s not known when he died.
He said the body was discovered on Sunday mid-morning by a young man who had travelled from Nairobi after he had been sent by the aunt to do some work in her house. “My aunt had sent a young man by the name Joseph Mutsembi to do for her some work in the house but when he reached the gate it had been locked from inside, he tried to knock but nobody answered. Lucky enough Mutsembi knows the compound very well so he decided to jump over the fence and moved round the compound trying to call Mr. Tongwa but there was no response,” said Khamati.
He said Mutsembi decided to move round all the houses in the compound knocking and trying to push the door and when reached on the one where the deceased was and pushed the door it opened and he was welcomed by strong odor before he discovered the naked body lying on the bed.
“He later informed neighbors who came to call me from the church and also informed police,” said Khamati.
The body was removed by police officers from Lumakanda station and taken to Chebaiywa mortuary for postmortem to establish the cause of his death.
According to Khamati this is not the first such incident to occur in the compound. He disclosed that on 22nd July, 2010 his cousin who was also living alone in the compound was killed and his body dumped outside the house. The incident has been confirmed by area police boss Patrick Maundu who said his officers have launched investigation.
