The analysis was presented by Chief Justice David Maraga during the launch of the Performance Management and Measurement Understandings evaluation report at the Supreme Court, Nairobi.
Present at the launch were Judges and Magistrates from court systems in Kenya. Chief Justice Maraga congratulated the courts that showed outstanding performance in their undertakings
“It’s our duty to commend all those court systems that have done a commendable job in reducing the backlog of cases and showing a great work,” said Maraga.
Moreover, he congratulated the Webuye Law Court for the stunning performance despite poor infrastructural development, terming the Judges as focused, determined and wise in giving rulings that satisfied the desires of the citizens.
“To those who didn’t measure up to the expectations of Kenyans, I encourage them to work extra hard to rectify their mistakes,” he added.
The Chief Justice clarified that the main objective of the Performance Management and Measurement Understanding report (PMMUs) is to give a scientific and technical basis of the courts in Kenya to access their performance.
The PMMUs evaluation was undertaken between October and December 2016 to determine the overall performance on critical indicators which include providing credible performance information that is reliable and useful for effective decision making, establishing the extent to which implementing units achieved negotiated targets.
CJ Maraga called on all the stakeholders involved to provide all the maximum support to enable efficient delivery of justice freely and fairly.
