Maragoli youths countrywide have been advised against participating in ongoing weekly demonstrations against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The Maragoli council of elders international coordinator Rev. Samuel Lugalia Muhindi said the council was opposed to the path taken by CORD, which has vowed to step up its onslaught on the IEBC commissioners.
He was speaking in Likuyani sub county during a meeting that brought together Maragoli council of elders and a section of the community members living in Likuyani.

“As a council that is guided by the Holy Bible and teachings of Christ, we advocate for peace to prevail in the country,” remarked Muhindi who strongly rooted for structured dialogue between the national government and the opposition in order to unlock the IEBC impasse.
“We appeal to our top leaders to develop culture of allowing dialogue a chance whenever faced with conflicts over important national issues like the current one on the IEBC,” added Muhindi who is also a religious and cultural scholar.
Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the meeting, the elder cautioned leaders across all political divides against manipulating and misusing the unsuspecting youths as they struggle to outdo each other in what he described as self-centred political battles.
“We don’t want to continue witnessing ugly scenes, where selfish politicians lure and incite the youth into violent incidents, which include splashing of abusive placards, beating innocent Kenyans senselessly as well as destroying public and private property,” stated
the elder.

Muhindi urged Maragoli youths countrywide to work towards positive and unrivaled legacies by displaying high levels of respect towards human life and property.
The scholar used the forum to advocate for the preservation of the country’s diverse cultural heritage and values as well as fostering national unity among the 42 Kenyan tribes.
“Every Kenyan should be proud of their individual tribes with accompanying customs, beliefs and practices, but this should not be misconstrued to mean we are promoting divisions and disunity among Kenyan citizens along tribal lines,” explained Muhindi who
During the function the elders officially inaugurated the council’s sub branch office in Likuyani Sub County which will act as headquarter for Maragoli council in Kakamega County.

He at the same time disclosed that circumcision for the community will officially kick off on 8th August, 2016 and appealed to all Maragolis wherever they are worldwide to observe their culture adding that the name of the circumcision age group will be revealed on 26th Dec, 2016 during the Maragoli cultural day.
His sentiments were echoed by the council’s national coordinator Mr. Joash Mise Amutamwa who warned those going against the culture by circumcising they children in hospitals saying it was not acceptable.
“During our traditional circumcision we have experts who tells whether the boy being circumcised will be productive or not, a thing that cannot be told by a doctor in the hospital,” said Mise.
