Three people were hospitalised at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret after ten machete-wielding gang members descended on Marakusi village in Lugari Sub County on Saturday night and gang-raped a mother and her nine-year-old daughter.
Speaking to West Media, the mother narrated how the gang forcefully gained entry into their house a few minutes after 12am before they gang raped her.
The husband pleaded with them to leave his wife but they turned on him and their nine-year-old daughter.
“After they were through, they tied my legs and hands with a rope on the chair and took two phones and household essentials,” she noted.
When they left she struggled and managed to untie the rope and she rushed to check on others only to find his husband lying in pool of blood after sustaining serious machete injuries and was tied on the bed, her daughter too was crying in pain.
“You can imagine the anguish I am going through. I have been raped, my nine year old daughter defiled and crying in pain while my husband is injured on the head and various parts of the body. The pain is too much, the security personnel need to investigate and ensure we get justice since we are no longer safe,” she said amid sobs.
The victims were hacked inside their homesteads and their household goods were stolen.
She raised an alarm and neighbours came to their rescue and rushed them to Lumakanda Sub County hospital before they were transferred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret.
Recalling the scene while at the hospital, the husband said the gang demanded to be given money but when he told them he did have it, they tied him on the bed and cut him with a panga on the head.
After leaving his home, they raided another home, beat the victim and his daughter before disappearing with goods of unknown value.
Speaking after visiting the victims, the area Member County Assembly Musa Wangila Makhapila condemned the ugly act and asked the officers in charge to speed up their investigations and bring the suspects to book.
“Insecurity in this area is alarming for the past weeks. People are being robbed, women and children being subjected to torture. Police need to find new ways to handle this before the situation gets worse,” said Makhapila.
The MCA said he was working closely with the administration to ensure administration police camp is put up at Marakusi trading centre.
