TV presenter Jacque Maribe will be remanded at the Lang’ata Women’s Prison and will be presented in court on 15th October alongside her fiance Joseph Irungu alias Jowie who will be detained at Industrial Area Remand prison as the case of the murder of the late Monica Kimani goes a notch higher. The two, who are accused of directly or indirectly being involved in the killing of Monica Kimani, were presented before Justice Jessie Lessit on Tuesday morning at the Milimani Law Courts, and the court also ordered the second accused Maribe to undergo a mental test at Mathari Hospital before taking plea.
Maribe’s lawyer Katwa Kigen had urged Justice Jessie Lessit to let his client take her plea before the mental test, “We submit that is being very casual on the rights of the accused considering the length of time they have held her…we are prepared to take the plea and we have no objection to the mental assessment being taken later on,” said Kigen.
Earlier, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji had affirmed that his satisfaction that there exists a prima facie case to warrant criminal prosecution against Joseph Irungu and Jacque Maribe for the offence of murder. In the press statement, he said as a result, he had directed the two to be arraigned before the High Court and charged following the independent review of the evidence.
